Reading Letter-  Students compose reading letters every three weeks on the novel they're reading.  Letters are to include a block quote to support an observation from the story.  Example posted.

Dragons are wrapping up their poetry unit and are transitioning into verbal presentation skills.
Each student is scheduled to present in the month of October. 
Reading Letter#2 is due Monday Oct 28.
Poetry Booklet is due Tuesday Oct 15.
Memoir Final Copy due Friday Oct 11.

Socials 8

Dragons are wrapping up their first unit of study and will have their first unit test on Tuesday Oct 15th.  Topics covered- Roman Empire, Frankish Empire, the Vikings, and Religion.

Health & Career Education 8

Students continued reproductive health with a look at HIV & AIDS.

 

Business 8

Kidz Mall under construction.  Students are creating stores and will be uploading their company products and information onto the web.

English 8

Composing memoirs and letters has been the primary focus for the first week of October. Students are focusing on avoiding ‘level one’ type thinking and writing. Instead students have been working on analyzing and evaluating their memoir worthy experiences and figuring out what about those events makes them special.  Handbooks had the following entries:  History of punctuation, the missing 'I', hopefully and other sins, See it Feel it and Hear it, and six poem types.

Socials 8

This week students have focused in on religion and will have their religion projects complete for Tuesday Oct 8. This week we looked at Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Next week we will look at Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism and will be reviewing for our first unit test.

HCE 8

Students finished storyboards on effective and non-effective communication. The class is now discussing reproductive health.

Business 8

Kidz Mall under construction and expected to be open and online for Halloween.

Architecture & Engineering Exploratory

Introductions to the course and the field of architecture. Students started their house drawings.

Next week students will learn about tower construction and will be faced with a in class construction challenge.
